Evidence-Based and Faith-Based Counseling in Charlottesville, VA

What's different about VCFR?  We provide evidenced-based and faith-based counseling in Charlottesville, VA. When you are in need, confused and vulnerable, what are you going to do?  Facing a life situation that you've never faced before? Are you in an "uncharted" territory and facing new challenges in your life?  Asking yourself, "Which way do I turn?" Feeling rejected and alone, and that your trust has been shattered? Thinking, "I have no clue what to do or where to turn"?

Somehow you've found us, and we are not here by accident.  Our dedicated professional counselors continue to provide compassion and direction today just as we have for hundreds of individuals and families in our community. We continue to build on all that we have learned about what helps people come to a place of peace and wellness.  We are determined to improve our services each year; and after 32 years of practice, we have learned a few things.

90% of Referrals are Word of Mouth

There are lots of questions, but there are some things you do know.  You know you want to feel accepted and understood.  You want to be confident that the counselor you're working with knows their "stuff." And, you want to be sure the counselor's core beliefs are founded on rock solid values.

In other words, you want the very best care available.  When family and friends, as well as professionals in our community (medical providers, PCP, and other doctors, as well as clergy, and attorneys), refer to us, they trust the quality of counseling services our professional counselors provide. About 90% of our clients come to us by word of mouth.

Evidence-Based Counseling - Psychotherapy

In today’s world, a lot of research is being done on counseling services outcomes, how the brain works, and what makes people happy.  We value good research and structure our therapy around what has been shown to be effective approaches to treatment.  Interestingly, we find that much of the research into types of therapy and neuroscience validates tried and true biblical principles for thinking and living.  Scientists tell us that the brain is wired for relationships and that relationships are vital to a more fulfilling life.  Research shows that people are happier when their relationships are going well.  In just a few words, the Great Commandment summarizes these years of research, "love God and your neighbor," and is a good foundation for a healthy life.  We're encouraged that many scientific findings support what we've been doing in our counseling offices for years.  Additionally, we review and research the latest evidence-based counseling methods, to continually refine our approaches.

Faith-Based, Christian Counseling - Psychotherapy

We seek to provide non-judgmental, compassionate, and effective counseling services.  We strive to ensure VCFR is a safe place where you and your family receive the best care and highest level of confidentiality.

When it pertains to issues of faith, we see clients from all worldviews, Christians, and non-Christians. We know some people value and desire a Christian counseling approach. They are eager to see how the current challenges are to be addressed from a Biblical worldview and how this impacts one's life for good or bad.  Others see no value in faith-based counseling.  Either way, we respect each person's beliefs.  We know our job is not to impose our faith on others but to hear and address your concerns, distress and relational challenges professionally and efficiently. Care and compassion are critical to ultimately achieving the goal of being able to move forward, more fulfilled and more at peace.
